Services

HRC has a Medical Clinic in two of its three centers.
Clients receive information about sexually-transmitted diseases as well as testing and treatment for those conditions from our staff of Nurse Practitioners (who are overseen by a Medical Advisory Board of five physicians). Clients are encouraged to ask questions and receive educational information and medical advice during their visit. The Clinic is also equipped with educational videos and numerous brochures that address any question a client may have so they may make informed choices.

Women in unplanned pregnancies come to Hope Resource Center feeling a variety of emotions - overwhelmed, confused, scared, or hopeless. We provide free, confidential services to these women in a non-judgemental, caring atmosphere. Our desire is to meet each woman at her point of need and share God's love with her.

Our clients receive free pregnancy testing, confidential pregnancy counseling to discuss all of their options, and educational services. Hope Resource Center's lay counselors are always ready to listen to concerns and to support our clients unconditionally, whatever decision they make regarding their pregnancy. Our goal is to help women make healthy choices for their lives - emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Other available services include peer support groups and educational classes, earned material assistance (for baby items, etc.) through our Heartbeat of Hope program, and information and referrals to other needed services during their pregnancy and beyond.

"Justwait" is a sex-education program from an abstinence point of view which stresses the physical and emotional risks of early sexual behavior.
It is delivered as part of the state curriculum to Knox County 6th, 8th, and 10th graders, and to students in a total of eighteen East Tennessee counties in 2009. Information regarding dating, marriage, sexually-transmitted disease, and pregnancy prevention are also part of these educational programs. All programs are age and grade appropriate. Work is currently underway to develop a pilot program for 4th graders, again age appropriate and stressing things like stranger-danger and good touch vs. bad touch. The Justwait program is also presented to community organizations, churches, and parent groups in an effort to educate parents as to the risks their students are facing. Justwait has been teaching this type of program for 13 years in Knox County, and has been both a recipient of Title V Abstinence Education funding from the state of Tennessee and of a CBAE (Community Based Abstinence Education) grant from the Federal government. The impact of the program here in Knox County is reflected in the fact that Knox County is the third most populated county of 95 counties in the state, yet it is 52nd out of 95 in teen pregnancy rates. Teen pregnancy rates have dropped steadily over the last ten years in Knox County, a fact that must be attributed to better education of our students concerning sexual activity. In 2008, Justwait will teach 25,000 students in 15 East Tennessee Counties in over 100 schools.

"Earn While You Learn" is a parent education program sponsored by HRC.
This is where young moms and dads learn basic parenting and life skills, all the while earning "baby bucks" to purchase much-needed child-care items such as cribs, car seats, strollers, diapers, clothing, etc. Weekly classes run for the length of a pregnancy and six months after delivery, and are taught concurrently for both mothers and fathers. Twice yearly classes are presented on smoking cessation. HRC has added a mentoring component to this educational endeavor for clients who have finished with the classes but desire continued growth and equipping. The benefit of the parenting classes will reach far in the future.

"Restoring Hearts" is an educational program targeting women and men who have experienced an abortion.
These women and men are struggling to overcome the residual feelings associated with an abortion experience. "Students" come together in a support group led by trained facilitators and work through an accredited post-abortion stress study called "Forgiven and Set Free".

Plans for the future of HRC include development of a program for 4th graders and expansion to two additional counties for the "Justwait" educational program, and possibly opening a third facility to be located in Lenoir City that will serve clients in Loudon County and west Knox County.
